We’re Engaged! What Do We Do Now?

Congrats on your engagement! I’m sure you might have been caught saying to yourselves, “well, now what?” You got the ring and the perfect partner, now all you need to do is plan the perfect wedding, but before you do that, take a second to enjoy this moment. These are the first things you should do to set this party off right!

Do I dare say take a nectarmoon? I mean, I don’t think it’s a thing yet but it will be and you’ll remember I said it first! Seriously, take a trip. If you’re a couple that loves to travel take a nectarmoon (you know, a pre honeymoon trip, hence, a nectarmoon). Have a new adventure and take a roadtrip or a quick flight during your engagement. Go explore and spend some real time together before you get down and dirty in wedding planning.

Also, if you don’t already live together, and don’t travel often, this is the best way to see how y’all fare under stressful moments (like the TSA security check and navigating major cities without knowing the language). Moments like these give you insight on each other and help you bond.

Fantasizing is always what starts my planning for anything. Note how I say fantasize, as opposed to planning (spend these days of your engagement enjoying each other), because this is the part where you get to ask each other,

“What would you do to experience the best day ever?”

Mind you, I didn’t say wedding. I said best day ever. Because a wedding shouldn’t be an obligation, it should be something you enjoy. So throw out your preconceived notions about what a wedding should look like and just start fantasizing about your best day ever.

Ask each other the following,

What would we wear on our best day ever?
Is there something special that we would do to enjoy the best day ever?
Where would we go on our best day ever?
Is there something on our bucket list we’d like to cross off on our best day ever?
Are there things we want to explore together on our best day ever?

Take your fantasizing out of the box and don’t think about a wedding as a ceremony and reception, but more as a new adventure to enjoy together. Big weddings are just a template, there are so many ways to get married – destination weddings, elopements, intimate weddings. And the answer to what those entail is just limitless.

I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of engagement photos. Maybe they’ve even seemed a little intimidating for you, but just hear me out.

You can actually have a photographer just follow you around on a night out or a day on the beach. Hire an engagement photographer on your nectarmoon (I’m going to make this a thing.) while you’re enjoying learning how to surf. Or go on your favorite hike and have a photographer follow you. Take it all out of the box and just celebrate in a way that most resonates with you. None of this process has to be stressful.

And if you hire an engagement photographer, it gives you an opportunity to try them out before you decide to book them for your wedding or elopement.

The celebrating doesn’t have to end with these ideas. Make sure to enjoy each other during the entire engagement process.
