1. Have a ceremony or don’t.
Define your own ceremony. Having a wedding doesn’t necessarily mean having a ceremony. A legendary elopement means you get to make that decision.
Discuss with your partner what you want your ceremony to look like. Believe it or not, it could be as easy as signing the paperwork. In some states you can self solemnize, in other states your dog can sign your marriage certificate. You don’t always need an officiant for every circumstance. If you do, we’re officiants and we’re happy to conduct your ceremony exactly how you want. An adventurous elopement means that this part can be a reflection of exactly who you are as well.
2. Invite ONLY the people you love the most on your legendary elopement.
I’m a huge believer that your wedding should be an exclusive event.
Not just because your people deserve to experience the love between you on such a special day. But because when you choose to keep your adventurous elopement exclusive you’re giving yourselves and your VIP all of your time. Instead of running around worrying about small details that won’t matter, you’re spending real quality time with your core people. You deserve that, your friends and family deserve that. We already spend our lives doing things we don’t want to do. Who said your wedding day can’t be a day to spend without obligation, expectation, or stress?
With the money you spend on a huge wedding, you could pay for an epic vacation with your exclusive guestlist. The same money you spend on a huge day that ends in dinner and dancing could be a week worth of adventures for your nearest and dearest. Your wedding should never be about quantity, but quality. Quality time spent with your family and friends is always time well spent.
3. Eat to your heart’s content.
Catered dinners for 100+ are ok, but have you ever had your own private chef create a dish especially for you and your VIP? It’s one of those luxuries you can experience when you really reduce all of the fluff. It’s a beautiful effect of concentring ONLY on the things you love. You love food? Create a day where you have all of your favorites. With the budget to feed 100+ people one mediocre meal, you can feed you and your closest folks the fanciest of your cravings all day. Shoot, with the budget to feed 100+ people, you can hire 3 different chefs for 3 different meals to feed up to o 10-15 people! I’m just saying, again, it’s all about quality never about quantity for adventure elopements.
4. Do all the things.
So when you have a wedding, you’re having a ceremony, a reception, and that’s it. 8-12 hours of “enjoyment” after a year’s worth of work. But when you have an adventurous elopement, you’re choosing to travel with your folks by plane, train, or boat. By adventurously eloping you’re choosing to rock climb in Moab, or kayak the Colorado River, enjoy a road trip through all of your bucket list national parks. You’re choosing to wine and dine yourselves and your people at a 5 star restaurant, or hire a personal chef to make you exactly what you all want. It’s your wedding, do all the damn things. The list of fun things to do at your wedding should not be limited to dinner and dancing.
5. Spend your time accordingly.
Wedding planning is stressful. Here’s the thing, everyday is stressful, why should your wedding planning and day be stressful? It shouldn’t be but too many people have done it so they had you thinking that that’s how it should be. It doesn’t have to be. You only have one wedding, this isn’t the thing to stress about, it’s an event to enjoy, savor, and think back on with deep appreciation and love. Don’t ever forget that part!
