D + D – How to Have a Just Us Las Vegas Desert Elopement

Now, a just us Las Vegas desert elopement could not have been further from a traditional New Orleans wedding. But that’s what D+D signed up for after their traditional New Orleans wedding was canceled not just once, but twice. If it sounds familiar, see S + J, a couple who also rescheduled twice, thanks to COVIID. They brought their sister, their love, and their champagne. We brought them to our favorite spot and they showed us what eloping in Las Vegas is all about.
They begin the day by saying their vows. They choose a spot next to a big Joshua Tree and plenty of bushes. Like many of our couples, they’ve gone the minimalistic route bringing only their sister to celebrate their wedding with them. It’s here in the calm and quiet of the desert that they enjoy true intimacy. Without the gaze and attention of others they exchange rings, a few joyful tears, and their first kiss as husband and wife.
Like many Las Vegas elopement brides before her, D cries during the ceremony even though she had said she probably wouldn’t. I’m almost certain I see D shed a tear, but I’m sure he may not admit it. Either way, we’re all bawling behind the camera watching their faces speak the language they only speak between each other.
D’s sister films the whole thing showing everyone at home what their Las Vegas elopement looks like. She even catches the bouquet risking life and limb by dodging sharp trees and bushes, so maybe she’ll be eloping in Las Vegas herself one of these days.
D + D are mystified with each other and the view, which makes it a perfect time to have them share a few romantic dances while the sun sets behind the mountain.
They pop their first bottle of champagne and share their first dance in the middle of the abandoned street while the sun sets on the valley, realizing that this is the moment they waited so long for. They share one last look under the moon right before their desert elopement goes dark.
Our time together doesn’t end there. They love me so much they hired me for a whole other day to shoot a Harlem Nights styled “engagement” shoot. I’m smitten with the idea and run with it and I meet them the day after their elopement at their hotel The Bellagio, you know, the famous hotel with the fountains.
