10 Desert Ceremony Locations

Are you considering ceremony with desert views? There are so many locations for you to consider for your desert elopement. Whether you’d like to have a “just us” ceremony or a micro-wedding, these are the reason we fell in love with the desert.  Each location has its own charm.

1. Lake Mead, NV - an underrated desert gem

This stunning and very underrated national recreation area is part of Hoover Dam and has some beautiful desert locations. And as the name suggests, it has a lake. You can rent a house boat for a few days with your family and friends and get married in a slot canyon, it’s a very versatile location for your desert elopement and one of my faves.

2. Red Rock Canyon, NV

Not to be mistaken for Red Rocks in Colorado, but just as good. This national park boasts a 13 mile scenic drive and group campgrounds with decent bathroom facilities for each group site. Because you’ll get your own personal site you can hire a personal chef to cook a hibachi meal for you and your VIP while you admire the way the stars look from just outside the Las Vegas Strip. Red Rock Resort and Spa is right down the road, so if you’d like to have an intimate ceremony in Red Rock Canyon, but would like to enjoy the luxuries of Las Vegas, feel free to book a suite and entertain guests there. Eloping in the desert has never been so fabulous.

3. San Dunes CA, NV, UT, CO

Yes, they’re everywhere, which makes them the perfect location for your desert elopement. They might be hard to walk on, but they’re beautiful as hell! There are several sand dunes all over the South West. There’s even pink sand dunes in Utah. Yup, I said pink! Sand dunes are a stunning sight even for people from the desert. It’s hard to contemplate miles and miles of just sand. Fortunately, a lot of these aren’t huge hikes which makes them a great location for just us elopements. Pack a picnic, ascend your favorite dune and enjoy the view of endless sand while you enjoy your charcuterie board and some wine.

4. Valley of Fire

Just an hour outside of Las Vegas, Valley of Fire State Park is one of the most dramatic places in the Southwest to elope. Towering red sandstone formations, winding desert trails, and glowing sunsets make the entire landscape feel cinematic.

Couples can exchange vows surrounded by fiery red cliffs, explore hidden rock formations, and watch the desert light turn everything gold at sunset. It’s adventurous without requiring long hikes, making it perfect for couples who want epic scenery with an easy, relaxed experience.

Valley of Fire feels timeless—raw desert beauty, wide open skies, and a setting that makes your vows feel as powerful as the landscape around you.

5. Dry Lake Bed

If you really want a “just us” experience, a dry lake bed is a great option for your desert elopement. Because the beauty of it is in it’s simplicity. Dry lake beds are a blank slate like no other. With nothing but flat ground, you can trek or 4×4 not too far at all before you feel like you’re secluded from everyone. Cloudy days on any dry lake bed make for guaranteed romance. Get lost in each other while you ignore the world from your own little taste of heaven.

6. Death Valley National Park

This versatile location makes for the perfect desert elopement location. Despite the name there’s plenty of life here. Artist Drive is the perfect location to admire the color and life that the desert has. Their dry lake bed has rocks that seem to be sliding across it, and Zabriski Point is a stunning show of cavernous hills that look like striped rocky road ice cream. They even have a resort in the middle of it and tax free recreational marijuana not too far from the entrance of Death Valley if that’s your kinda thing. This national park is the perfect place for a winter elopement.

7. Joshua Tree National Park

Giant boulders and Joshua trees are plentiful in this beautiful location. This place has gotten lots of attention and rightfully so. It’s a crazy sprawled out town with lots of natural desert beauty, almost an hour right outside of Palm Springs. Here you can rent a beautiful Air BnB home to entertain your guests with lawn games and a bonfire under the milky way. There are plenty of off the wall locations to say your vows although Joshua Tree National Park attracts plenty of eloping couples. Because of it’s many locations to say your vows, Joshua Tree wins a spot on this list as one of my faves, for sure.

8. Zion National Park

Zion National Park is a gorgeous desert elopement location that isn’t all desert. It’s rocky, gorgeous and it also has water, which makes it one of those really special desert elopement locations. Zion National Park’s colors are a bright orange and green, which makes it so unique. You can find deer grazing its expanse of land and eagles soaring around its mountain peaks. Squirrels approach you, probably because they’re so used to humans interacting with them. You can see the heights at Angel’s Landing, or stick to the Narrows for a view from within the canyons. Right outside of Zion’s gates is a cute town where you can grab a bite to eat, rent gorgeous Air bnbs and entertain guests.

9. The Colorado River

Who would’ve thought a river could cut through a beautiful desert? But it does, which makes it a very unique location for your desert elopement. This is where we did it, and because of that it is my favorite of all time. There are plenty of locations along the river where you can get married. For example, you can hike through hot springs and canyons and camp out right next to the river to and have a sunrise desert elopement ceremony. It’s where the desert meets the water and how freakin cool is that? After your elopement you can enjoy water sports like boating, kayaking, or paddleboarding. Enjoy exploring the coves and seeing the Hoover Dam from a view that not a whole lot of people have seen it from.

10. Slot Canyons

Slot canyons are plentiful in the South West and most are pretty secluded for eloping couples exploring unique desert elopement locations. Slot canyons provide peace and quiet, as well as stunning sights. Imagine getting up close and personal with your partner while you examine lines through canyons that were maybe once underwater. It’s like having your own personal indoor ceremony if you’re having a “just us” elopement.
